The seven time world champion thus needs just one more win to match Angel Nieto, who is second on the all time win list. Coincidently, Rossi also needs just one more podium finish to equal Nieto's 139 during his grand prix career.
I would not like to see him getting there, but I guess it will happen sooner or later. If reaching the milestone helps to make him come to his senses, and hence a stop to those objectionable post race performances, I will be happy for him. I just hope it will rather not make him more bold and audacious in his clowning acts.
its a shame no one adds up all the non champ races that were raced in 50s.60s and 70s as well as the other side champs like the 750's to see what the real stats are, todays are only fairly comparable from the 80s. before that its a bit hazy, as they didnt even get paid properly for the champ races, they got better pay at the other events. was crazy

Rossi's post race antics have died down to almost nothing (unfortunately). I thought they were funny.

Groupie, like all Rossi haters, lives and moans in a sad dark world without any sense of humour.
Glad that Rossi is around to give us a positive example.
Cheers to the jokes and the uncomplicated humour

Great record but still stick with what i say, it can only be compared to the mid 80s on wards. tho i dont know what nieto did out of championship races, but the likes of Sheene and Read would miss as many races as they could as it cos them more to race in it. in 76 sheene missed the last 3 races cos he was already champ. He would of likely won them, and this was a common story. Phill Reads true stats are probably very impressive. Riders would win MCN superbike champ, 750 and what ever they were doing in Grand Prix(moto GP). but only the moto gp(to which was only a few) gets recognised now-but that was never the case at the time.
that as side, Great record by Rossi, by todays standards

We Rossi Fans are all rooting for you Valentino, in my opinion it's not if he breaks the records but when.
Should be this year for the Nieto record & the other will be on it's way too
I agree Nigel, there will be a few records broken this year by Vale AND his team

Fantastic achievements by Rossi, but further to the good points from Brendan - you also can't compare the old days because in the 70's there were only 12 GP's a year compared to 18 now so a rider had fewer chances to score points.

Groupie = Cowan under yet another guise. Give the guy a break, he is ill... I will soon be introducing him to Rossi personally to see if I can exorcise his obsessive disease...

I still think that Valentino is the best rider to grace the plannet along with Mike Hailwood. I know you can't compare. Back in the 70's people race in 50's 80's 350 championships. That is where Angel and Ago got most of there race wins from. So you can't compare to these days. But Rossi is a true sportsman, never a dull moment. And for his winning celabrations just awesome.

Interesting. These are the responses that I was hoping for with my post in "Rossi on a high ......."

Sometimes i wonder why there are always some clowns who post into this box just to humiliate the doctor. Just remember hi rossi haters, your hatred will never do anything on our doctor... Vale, just do the best and let them finally die due to their envy on you... And i know you can do that!
