Priaulx calls for level playing field.

Sort Comments:

Priaulx calls for level playing field.

Unbeaten run may come to an end this year, Guernseyman fears, as he reveals he is taking nothing for granted.

Russel Atkins, either you're plain stupid, or you're a part of the diesel promotion mafia: It's not the diesel technology that Andy Priaulx is fearing, it's the turbocharger that the FIA authorizes the diesels to use, without any handicap in capacity!

Diesel engines are weak, compared to gas engines, and nobody can seriously fear them, unless they benefit of an unfair advantage, like in LeMans, or in the WTCC.

Now are you a motorsports journo, or a PR agent for Volkswagen AG?

I think its a good idea that Priaulx has put forward because otherwise the diesel SEAT Tractors are gonna walk away with the 08 title. And no one with any form of sense will want the real petrol cars to win

priaulx has had a distinct advantage with bmw over the last three years. now he is whinging that he may get beaten. surely COMPETITION is the name of the game!

Richard.... Talking out of ones backside. He isn't whinging but talking sense.

Formula One proved that mixing Turbos and normally aspirated engines doesn't mix.

Do the FIA never learn?

Sorry that one's too easy to answer.

fveescarab. turbos and normals do mix provided there is an equivalency formula. see bttcc which has rules almost identical. seat did not win everything there. what diesel gains in torque the normals gain in weight, tyre wear and other areas. diesel audis did well until porsche produced a better petrol powered car in alms. competition is good for the sport and improves the power plants for road cars. a bmw diesel is now considered better than a petrol bmw. incidentally isnt bmw preparing to use diesels in wttcc and have already used them in other categories. priaulx has to learn that this is competition!!!!! and yes, he is whinging. grow up

Richard - I understand what you are saying but I still disagree. The governing bodies have a history of getting the equivalency formula wrong.

If Seat want to race a diesel they should go and start a seperate championship themselves. To many rule changes have been made favouring front wheel drive manufacturers already. It would be simpler just to have a minimum weight/maximum engine capacity and let them get on with it, regardless of where the driven wheels are.

fveescarab. it is nice to have a sensible discussion. yes equivalency does not work on occassions. bmw have won wttcc for three years, so current formula works for them but has not for seat, alfa,or chevrolet. let others have a chance. circuits also differ. bmw have an advantage at macau. nobody else gets a look in. should all circuits be the same? similarily in F1 some cars are better than others but there are no calls to force a one make series. if priaulx wants to win with bmw, then maybe there should be a one make series for BMW as well as a one make series for seat, for alfa, and for chevrolet. wtcc already do a good job in trying to make all cars equal

Richard - I see what you're saying and agree that it wouldn't work, but if the FIA want to pay me a decent wage I'll have a go at sorting it out!

As for your original comment about Priaulx having an advantage at BMW I don't see how. Schnitzer are the favoured team, have two drivers all season, and a wealth more experience than the manthey team.

As for the circuits I love Macau and find most of the others sterile. Bring back the old circuits where the drivers really had to earn their wages.

fveescarab.i did not mean thar priaulx was not the best of bmw, rather than bmw did have an advantage that wttcc are trying to address. cmpetition by anothe r make, be it diesel or petrol, is healthy
if fia do offer a good wage, i will split it with you

As before I disagree about BMW having an advantage. Check out the lap times! The only place BMW have an advantage is at the standing start, which the FIA changed to help the front wheel drive manufacturers. (They had the choice of driven wheels before entering the series knowing the rules. They then expected the rules to be changed to suit them, which they have.)

As to your comment on competition I agree it's always healthy. Another option is to give the cars more power than traction!
