DTM extends Barcelona deal

The DTM has extended its deal to continue racing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona for a further three years.

The series has raced at the Spanish venue for the past two years, with the inaugural event in 2006 drawing in 46,000 spectators – the most successful debut race for a foreign based championship at the home of the Spanish GP.

The announcement came during the most recent round of the season at the Norisring, with Ramon Padera – the managing director of the Catalan venue – stating his pleasure at the extension of the deal.

"We are proud to be able to present one of the world's best touring car race series in Spain in the future as well," he said. "After the events of Formula 1 and the MotoGP series, the DTM is the most important event at our circuit."

ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht was also pleased with the extension of the deal.

"The DTM events in the past two years in Spain have been a great success," he said. "It is all the more enjoyable for us to extend our partnership here for the long term."
