Katherine Legge enjoyed the most successful weekend of her burgeoning DTM career at the daunting Norisring street circuit - but admits that it could have been even better but for one mistake.

The Briton, now in a one-year old Audi A4 DTM after serving her apprenticeship with a two-year old model in 2008, produced an impressive performance to claim fifth on the grid in Nuremberg. Calling on her experience of street circuits from her days in the Champ Car World Series in the United States, Legge's achievement was the best qualifying result by a woman in the history of the new DTM, and also represented the fastest time of any year-old car in the field.

"That was tremendous!" she enthused, "Everything went according to plan and the team did a good job. I feel that we really deserve this position. Q3, in particular, was very interesting. Unfortunately, I had to go to the pits when the track was getting faster and faster, but I had already completed the maximum permissible eight laps. The result is okay - now, I'm looking forward to a good race."

Unfortunately, any hope of opening a points account in the series went west at the start as, battling an eager car, Legge stalled on the grid and dropped to 14th place. With nothing left to lose, however, she again turned in an impressive afternoon's work, posting the fastest lap of the race at 48.620secs - again the first woman in 'new DTM history to do so - as she recovered a couple of places to finish twelfth.

"It was a very interesting race, with mixed feelings," she admitted, "The start was a massive disappointment - I stalled the engine because the car wanted to start moving, but I had to keep from jump-starting, so I guess that now I've got to practice starting again.

"My qualifying keeps improving this season, and I also posted the fastest race lap, so that shows that my speed is right. I've just got to eliminate a couple of mistakes now, and then quite a bit will be possible."
