Ekstrom takes Valencia win

Mattias Ekstrom wins in Valencia but Audi loses 1-2 finish
Mattias Ekstrom held off the challenge of Audi team-mate Martin Tomcyzk to secure victory in the second round of the DTM season in Spain.

Ekstrom had qualified on pole at Valencia and beat his fellow Audi driver to victory by 0.435 seconds, although Tomczyk would later be excluded from the results due to an issue with his tyres.

Ekstrom had built a comfortable lead through the early stages of the race but Tomczyk's decision to make a late final stop suddenly brought him into contention for victory.

Despite the best efforts of the German, Ekstrom held on to secure victory but Audi's celebrations over a 1-2 finish proved to be premature when it was discovered that Tomczyk had used a tyre that wasn't designated for use in the race.

As a result, he was excluded from the results which handed second place to the Mercedes of Bruno Spengler and moved Alex Premat onto the podium in third.

Defending champion Timo Scheider was fourth ahead of Paul di Resta, with Mike Rockenfeller rounding out the top six.

Oliver Jarvis had looked good for a podium finish before being forced to retire late on, while former F1 racer David Coulthard also failed to see the finish.
