Spengler to conduct initial BMW test next week
10 November 2011
Canadian Bruno Spengler will carry out his initial DTM BMW M3 running at the Monteblanco circuit next week ahead of schedule after an early release from his previous long-term employer Mercedes.
Spengler will be accompanied by Joey Hand following his GT championship success in the ALMS whilst driving a BMW-powered Chip Ganassi Racing car. The American will also be gaining his first impressions of the Munich manufacturers' DTM machine.
BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt was nothing but thankful following rival manufacturers' Mercedes gesture, which has enabled Spengler to test the car ahead of schedule.
“We would like to thank Bruno's current employer Mercedes most sincerely for releasing him early for the tests. We appreciate this sporting gesture, which goes to show how well we co-operate behind the scenes,” sai dMarquardt.
“Now we can look forward to his first laps with our BMW M3 DTM, and his initial impressions of the car.”
As for Hands, a driver who Marquardt rates highly, he believes his contribution will be invaluable towards the BMW effort for next season.
“We are equally looking forward to the feedback from Joey Hand, who has enjoyed a superb ALMS season together with Dirk Müller. Dirk has already had various opportunities of testing the BMW M3 DTM. Joey's test also proves how tightly our various motorsport campaigns mesh together,” he added.
BMW will be fielding three cars during the test with Team Schnitzer, Team RBM and Team RMG all running a car each.
Yet again filling the remaining slots for the Monteblanco test will be Dirk Werner and Augusto Farfus. by Simon Evans
