Schneider to race in Aussie GT finale
31 October 2012
DTM legend Bernd Schneider will return to competitive racing in a one off showing for Erebus Motorsport during the Australian GT championship finale at Sydney Olympic Park.
Schneider, who retired from racing in 2008 after notching up five DTM titles, will contest the final round of Australia's GT championship in a SLS AMG GT3 car for Mercedes customer team, Erebus Motorsport.
“This will be my first time in Australia in a number of years and the first time that I will have the opportunity to race the Erebus Motorsport Gullwing there,” said Schneider.
“There is a big Championship battle on and I will be doing my best to assist Peter (Hackett). The team is well respected among the AMG Customer Sports program, hopefully we can assist even more.”
The 48-year old, who has played an integral part in developing the SLS Gullwing, has been brought in to assist championship leader Peter Hackett to clinch the GT championship but states, as always, he has 'entered to win'.
“Of course I am there to win - I never enter a race not to win, but the main goal is for Erebus Motorsport to win the first Championship outside Europe for AMG Customer Sports.
“I'll be doing whatever I can to help the team achieve this goal,” Schneider concluded. by Simon Evans
