Wittmann secures DTM race seat
2 December 2012
BMW have promoted test and development driver Marco Wittmann to a full time DTM race seat for 2013.
Wittmann, who spent 2012 with the Munich manufacturer as a development driver, became the first of two new additions to BMW's eight car line up next year.
The German was also a runner up in the 2011 F3 Euroseries championship before moving to BMW.
BMW motorsport boss Jens Marquardt believes the 23-year old will have no trouble in settling into a full time role next season.
“Marco spent the 2012 season preparing intensively for this opportunity,” said Marquardt.
“He was a permanent part of the team throughout the entire year and was present in every meeting. He knows the processes just as well as the other drivers.
“Furthermore, his tests in the BMW M3 DTM showed he is more than capable of coping with the DTM. As such, he fully deserves a DTM seat in 2013,” Marquardt added.
Meanwhile, BMW also confirmed that the six existing drivers from this season will stay on in 2013 but did not go onto elaborate in which teams each driver will race.
Finally, BMW announced the addition of another team in shape of MTEK to accommodate their expansion to eight cars. by Simon Evans
