Touring car legend Bernd Schneider marked his comeback by clinching a masterful double race victory at the Australian GT finale around the Sydney street course.

Schneider, who hasn't competed since retiring from the DTM in 2008, was drafted in by Mercedes customer team Erebus Motorsport in a bid to aid Peter Hackett in claiming the GT championship.

The German displayed he hadn't lost any of his magic by claiming both races over the weekend as well as topping every practice session around the Olympic precinct.

Schneider's success however, was not enough to help team-mate Hackett to the title after the Aussie saw his hopes disintegrate following a heavy crash.

"It was the perfect weekend all around here in Sydney," said Schneider.

"The Erebus Motorsport team has been fantastic since I first arrived with them on Wednesday. We have not changed one thing on the SLS AMG GT3 since I first saw it and it presents brand new, it is absolutely awesome.

"To race in Australia and here at the Sydney Olympic precinct was a great experience. It does have a little sadness that we couldn't wrap the Championship up for Peter, but I've been around motorsport for a long time and these things sometimes happen," Schneider concluded.
