Miguel Molina has retained his Audi DTM race seat for 2013 after the Ingolstadt manufacturer confirmed its eight-man line up.
Molina's involvement in Audi's DTM plans this season had been in doubt after weeks of speculation fuelled by the manufacturer not initially including the Spaniard when first announcing its 2013 squad earlier this year.
However, earlier today, Audi finalised its eight-man line up meaning the 23-year old, who has already achieved two pole-positions along with becoming the first Spaniard to score a DTM podium, will retain his place on the grid this season.
According to Audi motorsport chief Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, the recent scrapping of Friday practice was a crucial factor in keeping the three season veteran Molina onboard.
“Finding the perfect set-up in an extremely short space of time will be crucial, so experience is worth its weight in gold. Therefore, we decided not to integrate a DTM rookie and to run with our proven Squad,” said Ullrich.
As a result of Molina staying on, Rahel Frey, after two seasons, will not remain in the DTM squad and now moves onto Audi's GT programme.
