Green: Will to win is there

10 March 2013

Former Mercedes star Jamie Green firmly believes his new employers Audi can challenge for the DTM title this season despite them missing out on the crown for the last two years.

Green, who will partner former double champion Mattias Ekstrom for Abt Sportsline, brought to end an eight year partnership with the three-pointed star last season after achieving a career best third place in the championship.

After spending much of the winter in new surroundings Green states the 'necessary will to win' is clearly evident within the Audi camp after two winless years.

“Winning the championship remains my big goal. Even though Audi didn't live up to its own expectations in 2012, I start the new season completely impartially and hope that we can fight for the title this year,” Green told Audi's official website.

“I'm happy that I can compete for Audi in one of the most successful DTM teams. The last title was two years ago – I think that the necessary will to win is there.”

The Brit, who has already had a taste of the RS 5 DTM, is also pleased with his title-challenger for this season ahead of the cars obligatory developments.

“I got my first impression of the car's handling during the tests at Valencia. I got on very well,” said Green.

“Many things still will be tested to further optimise the car. It's very interesting for me to monitor this development work.

“Audi Sport is working very hard to further improve the performance of the Audi RS 5 DTM within the actual constraints,” the Brit concluded.
