Paffett tops day two in Spain
28 March 2013
Gary Paffett posted the quickest time on Wednesday as the DTM test at the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona continued.
Following the lead set by Robert Wickens on Tuesday, Paffett kept Mercedes on top of the times around the shorter version of the Spanish circuit, posting a quickest lap of 1min 06.149secs at the wheel of his AMG C-Coupe on a day that saw drivers deal with mixed conditions on track.
“Apart from the rain in the morning we had another successful day of testing, at Barcelona,” he said. “We focused on long-runs with the option and the standard tyres, today, to understand the balance and performance differences. It's nice to hold the top position on the time sheets, at the end of a day of testing but in the end, this doesn't count.”
Behind the Briton, Augusto Farfus was second quickest in his BMW, just 0.028secs, off the benchmark time while fellow BMW man Timo Glock was third fastest and top rookie as he continues to acclimatise to his new surroundings.
“I felt more comfortable than on Tuesday, today,” he said. “We were able to complete a lot of laps and quite obviously, this was helpful for us as a new team and me as DTM rookie.
“I still have got my problems when it comes to understanding the standard tyre. Nonetheless, I was rather unhappy with our long-runs. And on the option tyres I had particularly big fun, today. We will continue our work at Hockenheim and try to make the best possible use of the short preparation time prior to the season.”
Tuesday pace-setter Wickens was fourth, with Daniel Juncadella and Martin Tomczyk rounding out the top six. Timo Scheider was the top Audi man in seventh.
