Farfus on top as testing concludes
13 April 2013
Augusto Farfus completed BMW's domination of the final DTM test at Hockenheim by topping the timesheets ahead of a three-week gap until the season opener.
Farfus, who set a time of 1 minute 32.976 seconds around the Hockenheimring, was followed close behind by his fellow BMW team mates Bruno Spengler and tin-top rookie Timo Glock completing the top-three lockout.
The Brazilian's time set on Friday was also the outright fastest as the BMW's occupied the top spot for each of the four days thanks to the double triumph of DTM rookie Marco Wittmann while Joey Hand headed the penultimate day.
“Generally, the Hockenheim test was very positive for my BMW Team MTEK and BMW Motorsport,” said Glock.
“Of course, we had a lot of rain. But that isn't a major problem either, because we will get one or the other race in the rain during the season as well.
“We are getting better lap after lap and we are also getting quicker with the pit stops, which we have practiced intensely. Noticing an upward trend from one test to another makes me feel good. Hopefully, this trend will also continue during the first race at Hockenheim.”
Top Mercedes man over the four days was Christian Vietoris, who set a 1 minute 33.453 seconds lap - good enough for fourth position on day 4, while Audi's fastest driver came in the shape of Miguel Molina on day 3.
“These were two good days for me,” said Molina.
“The fact that I was the fastest Audi driver of the week makes me happy, but to be honest, doesn't mean a lot to me.
“It is qualifying at Hockenheim that counts. I have tried the option tyres twice and it was great fun. I am quite curious to see which strategies we will see during the races with the new possibilities.”
The DTM season begins with its traditional opening round at Hockenheim on May 5th.
