Paffett in buoyant mood ahead of season opener

Gary Paffett in buoyant mood ahead of this weekend's DTM season opener.
Gary Paffett is looking to kick off his 2013 DTM campaign in the same manner as he did last season by leading home a Mercedes one-two at Hockenheim this weekend.

Paffett, who has taken top-honours at Hockenheim on four previous occasions, agonisingly missed out on last year's DTM title to BMW's Bruno Spengler in a dramatic season-finale shootout after leading for the majority of the season.

“Hockenheim simply suits Mercedes-Benz and me,” said Paffett.

“Our brand has been victorious 32 times here and I myself have won four races. Last year, we achieved a one-two victory in the season-opener – a perfect start. I hope we can do it again this year.”

The Brit also clarified his batteries are 'fully recharged' after a disappointing end to his 2012 campaign along with echoing the rest of the grids excitement over the arrival of DRS and Hankook's option tyre.

“My batteries are fully charged after the long winter break and I'm really looking forward to the new DTM season,” Paffett added.

“Thanks to many new features, option tyres and DRS, this will certainly be an interesting and exciting year.

“My goal is clear: to fight for the championship and not be pipped at the post again in the finale at Hockenheim.”
