The DTM and Hankook have extended their partnership, meaning the South Korean manufacturer will remain as the official series tyre supplier until the end of 2016.

The tyre supplier's original contract with the DTM was due to finish at the end of this current season until the two parties confirmed a further three-year extension on the eve of the new 2013 season.

Hankook replaced Dunlop as the control tyre supplier at the start of 2011 and this year, for the first time, will introduce an F1-style option tyre to the series in a bid to further improve the spectacle.

"The cooperation with Hankook during the first two years of our partnership has absolutely convinced us of the high level of performance they deliver," said ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht.

"This is why we wanted to continue our successful cooperation beyond 2013. The early extension of the contract is a logical consequence.

"We are excited to see how the new option tyres will perform this season. By bringing two different tyre compounds into action during the races we surely will see more action on the track and more possibilities for overtaking.

"A big 'Thank You' to the Hankook engineers who have perfectly met the challenging task to develop a tyre according to our wishes - a tyre that allows for faster lap times over a limited period and then deteriorates quickly," Aufrecht concluded.
