Scheider hails ‘incredible’ pole

Timo Scheider admits his pole position at Hockenheim is an 'incredible feeling'.
Audi's Timo Scheider has said his pole position, secured at Hockenheim earlier today, is an incredible feeling after a 'rough winter'.

Scheider took his eleventh career DTM pole on Saturday ahead of BMW's Augusto Farfus after being the only man to dip under the 1 minute 36 second bracket.

The German admitted following a disastrous campaign for Audi last season their winter also wasn't all that promising in terms of car development, making his qualifying success all the more sweet.

“When you analyze the data in the winter, of course your wish is to do everything better in the new season,” said Scheider.

“We had a rough winter with respect to the development. But I, personally, wanted to improve compared to the previous years as well.

“Being on the pole position after the first day in the 2013 season is an incredible feeling and is very good for the team too,” the German added.

Despite his drivers fastest time today, Audi's newly appointed head of DTM Dieter Gass remains realistic going into tomorrow, stating the 42-lap race will be a unknown for all of the teams.

“Well done to Timo Scheider, his engineer and Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline,” said Gass.

“They did everything right today in these extremely difficult conditions and deserve clinching the pole position.

“But I think that qualifying was just a foretaste of the race tomorrow, which not least due to the conditions today will be a journey into the unknown.

“Of course it's our aim to make it into the top ten with more than two cars.”
