Martin Tomczyk has claimed BMW's first DTM pole-position of 2013 at Brands Hatch by just half a tenth ahead of Audi's Mike Rockenfeller, while no Mercedes made it in the top ten.
Tomczyk, who was the last driver to run in Q4, produced a near faultless 41.158 second lap to propel his RMG-run BMW to the front of the grid at the expense of Audi's Rockenfeller who set the previous best.
The German's ninth pole-position of his career was also his first for BMW.
Augusto Farfus continued his strong start to the season as the championship leader heads the second row of the grid in third.
America's Joey Hand produced his best DTM qualifying to date by making Q4 for the first time in his career, meaning the BMW man will start tomorrow's race from fourth position.
Defending DTM champion Bruno Spengler will line up fifth after missing the Q4 cut-off time by seven-thousandths of a second. Audi's Timo Scheider couldn't replicate his Hockenheim form and shares the third row with the BMW man.
Despite setting the pace during free-practice Marco Wittmann was unable to translate that pace with a similar qualifying position and starts the race seventh.
Andy Priaulx comes out of qualifying as the best placed Brit in eighth position, marking a possible upturn in fortune for the BMW driver.
Audi's Edoardo Mortara and Miguel Molina round off the top ten in ninth and tenth respectively.
DTM new-boy Timo Glock can count himself unlucky not to be in the top ten for the first time in his tin-top career. The German will start eleventh, just two-hundredths shy of the Q3 cut-off point.
Gary Paffett represents Mercedes' best hope for tomorrow's race in twelfth position, as incredibly no three-pointed star car made it into the top ten.
Jamie Green will start eighteenth despite setting a time good enough for sixth position in Q1. It later emerged that the Abt-run Audi missed the chequered flag by just one-tenth of a second making his time irrelevant and promoting the Mercedes of Paffett into Q2 who at the time was lying 17th.
