Spielberg success simply sensational, says Spengler

Bruno Spengler hails BMW's sensational weekend
Bruno Spengler has said BMW's 1-2-3 at Austria's Red Bull Ring is 'simply sensational' after the Canadian headed the historic result to also lead the DTM championship.

Spengler, who didn't put a foot wrong all weekend, crossed the line ahead of, remarkably, his rookie team-mates Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock who completed the BMW podium lockout after both nearly snatching the win their selves.

BMW's rostrum domination at Spielberg comes over 20-years since the last time the Munich-manufacturer achieved the feat during the 1992 Hockenheim season-finale.

“A one-two-three is simply sensational,” said Spengler.

“That does not happen very often in motor racing. We had one of those weekends, for which you spend your entire life working. However, it was not as easy as it looked. My pace was very good throughout the entire race, but I had to push in the middle of my first stint in order to stay in front.”

Spengler, as was the case for Augusto Farfus in Hockenheim, paid tribute to BMW's tactical acumen in clinching the victory.

“This victory belongs to BMW Team Schnitzer. The strategy, with the late second stop, was the key to the success.”
