Spielberg extends DTM deal

20 June 2013

The Red Bull Ring is to feature on the DTM calendar until at least 2016 after a new deal was signed with series organisers ITR.

The Austrian circuit has featured on the schedule since 2011 when it was brought back onto the calendar after a seven-year break – during which the venue underwent extensive renovation work having been purchased by Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz.

The event has quickly become one of the most popular on the schedule, with the venue winning 'Organiser of the Year' last year, and is set to make a series of improvments ahead of its 2013 race.

“We feel really comfortable at Spielberg, with DTM,” ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht said. “Therefore, we are delighted with having the chance of racing there in the coming three years, too. Spielberg has got the advantage of being a circuit embedded in the environment, thus automatically making for great motor racing. That's one of the reasons why we love to race at Spielberg.

“Another one is the great organisation that is absolutely on the level it takes today for holding professional motor-sport events. At the same time, we also have the DTM fans in mind. We want to provide them an even better and nicer experience, during our coming race meetings at the Red Bull Ring. And to be able to do so, we wish for roofed grandstands and an improved parking-area situation.”
