Ekstrom feeling ‘comfortable’ ahead of Nurburgring

9 August 2013

Mattias Ekstrom admits he hasn't felt as comfortable in his Audi cockpit for a long time following an upturn in form for the former double-DTM champion.

Ekstrom heads to the Nurburgring in a confident mood after finishing first on the road at the Norisring, only to be later disqualified for his infamous water bottle Parc Ferme incident, and after taking a strong second place last time out at Moscow.

The 35-year old, technically, hasn't added to his 17 race victories since Valencia 2011 and also, going back even further, hasn't clinched a DTM title since 2007.

However, the Swede insists his rediscovered ease within his Audi puts him in with a chance of taking top honours next weekend at Nurburgring.

“I've celebrated many successes at the Nürburgring and am looking forward to returning to the Eifel," said Ekstrom.

“At the moment, I'm feeling more comfortable in the cockpit and the team than I have in a long time. That's why I think that we've got good chances of winning the next big trophy. My aim is to win the race.”
