Farfus on pole at Nurburgring

17 August 2013

Augusto Farfus heads an all BMW front-row ahead of DTM rookie Marco Wittmann at the Nurburgring while title contenders Bruno Spengler and Mike Rockenfeller languish in the middle of the pack.

Farfus posted a scintillating 1 minute 23.296-second lap around the legendary German circuit to deny his younger-rookie team-mate Wittmann a maiden pole-position.

The young German lost two-tenths within the opening sector to Fafus, ultimately costing the MTEK-man a famous pole-position.

Miguel Molina displayed an upturn in form to qualify his Audi in a strong third position just ahead of Edoardo Mortara who made it an all Phoenix-Audi second row in fourth.

Gary Paffett heads a four-strong Mercedes train as the highest placed championship contender in fifth. Dani Juncadella shares the third row with his team-elder in sixth.

Robert Wickens and Christian Vietoris lockout the fourth row in seventh and eighth while Mattias Ekstrom lurks just behind in ninth.

BMW's Bruno Spengler missed out on a golden opportunity to put some clear air between himself and championship leader Mike Rockenfeller, who, astonishingly, was knocked out in Q2 – qualifying eleventh as a result.

Spengler, himself, then struggled in Q3 to qualify tenth, handing Rockenfeller a get out of jail free card ahead of tomorrow's race.

Timo Glock starts 13th despite showing promising form during Q1 where the former F1-star had been sixth fastest.
