Nico Muller couldn't hide his excitement after he turned in one of the fastest times during pre-season DTM testing at the Hungaroring on his first outing with Audi.

The Swiss driver, who switches to touring car racing after a race-winning turn at Formula Renault 3.5 level in 2013, was making his official debut in the RS5 DTM in Hungary, but proceeded to surprise the paddock by topping the timesheets on the second of four days.

Though he was eventually surpassed by Christian Vietoris by the end of the four days on the overall leaderboard, Muller was thrilled to have come out of the blocks so fast.

"I'm virtually over the moon," he said. "This was a great first day at Audi and in DTM. To have the chance of driving the Audi RS 5 DTM here in Hungary is a true highlight. It was particularly important for me to see that I felt really good in the team and in the car right from the start.

"We don't really mind the times but nonetheless, it's always nicer to be at the top of the time sheets than further down. We try to complete our programme and learn as much as possible for the season, in these tests.

"I like the Hungaroring and have fond memories of it as I succeeded in winning races here in every category I raced in, in the past four years. I like the track, it's very technical. And it also seems to suit our car rather well. Therefore, we are very happy with what we achieved."
