Marco Wittmann took BMW to the top of the timeesheets on the first day of DTM pre-season testing at Hockenheim, fending off the full Audi contingent.

Following four days of testing at the Hungaroring, DTM heads to the famous German venue for the latest round of testing, albeit with just 11 of the 23 cars on track over the course of the day.

RMG BMW driver Wittmann would emerge quickest of all with a time of 1min 33.084secs, heading off the challenging from rivals Audi, with Mattias Ekstrom, Timo Scheider, Edoardo Mortara and Nico Muller filling out the rest of the top five.

With Joey Hand sixth fastest in his BMW, the quickest Mercedes driver would be Daniel Juncadella, with C-Coupe counterparts Paul di Resta and Christian Vietoris bringing up the rear in 10th and 11th, behind Timo Glock and Bruno Spengler.

Hockenheimm will host the first and final rounds of the 2014 DTM Championship.
