DTM rookie Maxime Martin will start from pole position for the fifth round of the 2014 DTM at the Moscow Raceway, the Belgian leading an all-BMW front row in Russia.

A new addition to BMW's driver line-up this season, Martin – who had mostly plied his trade in sportscar racing before being promoted to a regular DTM drive – declared his intentions by topping Q2 with the fastest lap of the weekend

Though his Q3 effort of 1min 28.619secs wasn't quite as quick, it was still enough for him to edge out BMW team-mate Bruno Spengler by two hundredths of a second to claim an unexpected pole position.

Another typically close DTM qualifying session, just three tenths would cover the eight drivers that made it through to Q3, with practice pace setter Nico Muller posting a season's best third on the grid to lead the Audi charge, the Swiss driver joined on row two by defending champion Mike Rockenfeller.

Adrian Tambay starts fifth, ahead of Augusto Farfus, championship leader Marco Wittmann and Miguel Molina as BMW and Audi locked out the front four rows.

Indeed, despite a morale-boosting win last time out at the Norisring courtest of Robert Wickens, Mercedes' miserable DTM season continued in qualifying around the Russian circuit, the Canadian emerging as its highest-placed representative in 14th, while Paul di Resta, Pascal Wehrlein, Gary Paffett, Christian Vietoris and local driver Vitaly Petrov occupying five of the last six spots on the grid.
