Heikki Kovalainen is to get a taste of DTM machinery for the first time this week after being invited to join BMW's in-season test at the Lausitzring.

The Finn, who contested 111 F1 races - and claimed his sole victory for McLaren in Hungary - has not competed full-time since the end of the 2012 season when he lost his drive with Caterham.

However, he will get the chance to sample the M4 DTM at the EuroSpeedway Lausitzring this week as part of BMW's testing programme ahead of the next DTM round, to be held at the same circuit in September.

The Munich marque is well on course to win this year's DTM title with Marco Wittmann, who leads the standings by 64 points with just 75 available from the final three rounds.
