BMW RMG Team Principal Stefan Reinhold has praised Marco Wittmann's mature approach to his DTM title winning season while adding a winter transformation to the squad was key in their success.

With two rounds to spare, Wittmann brilliantly sewn up the championship last weekend at the Lausitzring with a controlled drive to sixth position in the tricky wet/dry conditions, while his main title-rivals all fell off the cliff to score no points - handing the RMG-man victory on a plate.

Wittmann, in truth, has looked every bit the champion from the word go after dominating the season opener at Hockenheim before taking a further three-victories to further bolster his now unassailable advantage.

The young German had shown brief glimpses of what he could achieve in his debut season last year, but after moving from Team MTEK to his now current RMG squad, the 24-year looked much more of a complete article for his 2014 campaign.

As Reinhold explains, Team RMG underwent a sizeable makeover in preparation for this season finishing a distant tenth in the teams table with only 20-points to their name during the 2013 campaign where they fielded Briton's Andy Priaulx and 2011 DTM champion, Martin Tomczyk.

RMG, along with guiding Wittmann to victory, unsurprisingly are sitting pretty in teams tables with a substantial 75-point lead over Audi's Team Abt.

"After the poor results last season, we asked ourselves a lot of questions - as we still do after every race," Reinhold explains.

"What can we do better, what went wrong? We then tightened a few screws here and there, and continuously made little improvements. On top of that, my two drivers were able to implement our instructions almost perfectly in qualifying and in the race.

"All these factors are key to the success we have enjoyed together with BMW. Despite his success, Marco Wittmann has kept his feet firmly on the ground.

"When he has time, he still goes back to see his father at the family chassis building company, and helps out where possible. That says a lot about what a great character he has."
