Reigning DTM champion Marco Wittmann has finished top of the timesheets at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on the first day of the three-day pre-season test.

The BMW M4 driver was the only one to break the 1m 20s barrier on the opening day and set the quickest time of 1m 19.913s around the 3.696km track, located in the Magdeburger Borde region. Merecedes-AMG C63 driver Robert Wickens ended the day as the leader of the chasing pack but a substantial 0.220s off Wittmann.

BMW dominated the day after securing four of the top five positions with Timo Glock, Antonio Felix da Costa and Tom Blomqvist completing the top five. Merecedes duo Gary Paffett and Christian Vietoris ended the day sixth and seventh respectively.

Audi, who set the fastest time in the last pre-season test in Estoril, trialled in the manufacturers' race with Nico Muller the fastest RS 5 driver down eighth place, a whopping 0.628s off Wittmann and BMW.

Audi pair Mattias Ekstrom and Timo Scheider rounded out the top 10 while DTM rookie Maximilian Gotz acted as the Mercedes meat in an Audi sandwich in P11.

Gotz suffered from limited running in his Mercedes-AMG C63 car after it expired while exiting the pitlane at the start of the afternoon session. Team Mucke Motorsport have been working tirelessly to get his V8 touring car back up and running for day two.

Audi Sport Team Abt's Edorado Mortara also suffered continual car issues and completed just 29 timed laps to finish at the bottom of the timesheets.

The test will continue at Oschersleben for two more days on Wednesday and Thursday.
