As DTM debutant Esteban Ocon prepares to familiarise himself with the upgraded Mercedes-AMG C63, the German manufacturer says the evolution in development brings its racing model in line with its road car.

For the upcoming German touring car season Mercedes is set to introduce the updated machine with a revised design which has been rigorously tested during the winter as the manufacturer looks to defend its teams' and drivers' titles.

GP3 champion Ocon will take the race seat of Formula 1-bound Pascal Wehrlein at Mercedes and has been getting to grips with the upgraded Mercedes-AMG C63 challenger.

The new car will have dynamic redesigned headlights and the twin blade grill is typical of the AMG, giving the car a more striking look.

The road-going version, inspired by the DTM challenger, is equipped with a ceramic high-performance compound brake system offering the ultimate in deceleration values and lower unsprung masses to increase performance.

The stats which turn the most heads are what the car packs underneath its bonnet. The AMG version holds a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 monster which is expected to produce 476bhp and 479lb ft of torque with a 0-60mph in a little over four seconds. If something scarier is necessary, the C63 'S' version pumps up to 510bhp, providing enough muscle to take on its BMW and Audi rivals.

Garry Paffett, a former DTM champion with Mercedes who is gearing up for his 13th year in the German series, says he's been seriously impressed with his race-specification C63 and can see how it translates on to the road car.

"The 2016 version of the Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM looks really good. Obviously, many parts are similar to those on the current car," Paffett said. "The new shape is really cool and simply shows that the Mercedes-Benz and AMG road versions are getting better and more beautiful with every stage in their evolution. I'm already looking forward to climbing into the new car. Hopefully, we can fight for lots of wins and maybe even win the title with it."
