Blomqvist keeps BMW on top at Hockenheim test

Briton Tom Blomqvist ensures BMW stay top of the DTM pile during two of the Hockenheim pre-season testing after narrowly beating Audi's Mattias Ekstrom.
Briton Tom Blomqvist has kept BMW on top of the Hockenheim DTM pre-season test after setting the pace during the second day ahead of Audi's Mattias Ekstrom.

The Team RBM driver produced the fastest lap of the four-day test so far, shading his M4 stablemate Augusto Farfus' time from yesterday by little over a tenth.

Team Abt's Ekstrom also dipped under Farfus' time from Tuesday as the Swede, in turn, led Mike Rockenfeller, who set the third quickest time for Team Phoenix.

Keen to avenge the unsuccessful defence of his maiden DTM crown, Marco Wittmann ended his first day of the Hockenheim test as the second fastest BMW driver in fourth position.

BMW's Antonio Felix da Costa and Audi's Jamie Green closely followed the German in fifth and sixth while Maximilian Gotz once again found himself as the fastest Mercedes in seventh.

As was the case in yesterday's session, Gotz racked up 139 laps around the German Grand Prix venue, 26 more than his previous effort.

Edoardo Mortara was eighth for Audi ahead of Lucas Auer and Esteban Ocon, both driving for the second day in a row for Mercedes.

Bruno Spengler carried out his first official run of 2016 for BMW in eleventh as Daniel Juncadella's running was cut short after the Spaniard went off the circuit at turn 12.
