BMW arrive into the new DTM campaign with the intention of building upon an already enviable level of success, beginning with this weekend's Hockenheim season opener.
Aside from the iconic Munich manufacturer's motorsport operation, 2016 marks a significant milestone in the story of BMW as the brand celebrates its 100th year of existence.
On the sporting front, BMW have the DTM manufacturers' title to defend, having clinched an unprecedented seventh title since re-joining the series back in 2012.
The M4 package has already looked to be a competitive prospect during testing after Augusto Farfus and Tom Blomqvist topped the opening two days during the official pre-season test held at the Hockenheimring.
"In a year that marks the centenary of the BMW Group and the BMW brand, we are extremely focussed going into our fifth DTM season since returning to the series," said BMW's Motorsport director Jens Marquardt.
"We obviously have our sights set on improving our already-impressive record in the DTM. We want to take the first step in this direction in Hockenheim. The atmosphere on the opening weekend of the DTM is traditionally awesome.
"You can sense how much the spectators are looking forward to the first showdown of the season. The same goes for us at BMW Motorsport.”
