DTM championship leader Robert Wickens will head into qualifying for the seventh race of the 2016 campaign as the man to beat after topping the second practice at the Norisring.
Just two Mercedes C63's made the top-ten order but that mattered little as Wickens and Lucas Auer locked out the positions of most importance ahead of Audi's Jamie Green in third.
The 'King of Norisring' Green almost ended the session on a high after storming to the stop within the final minutes but a 48.570 second lap from Wickens was good enough to send the Canadian to the top.
Lausitzring winner Auer also displaced Green late on while Team Abt's Mattias Ekstrom remains a significant threat for pole position later on in fourth.
Team RMG's Marco Wittmann once again ended the practice running as the BMW effort in fifth, marginally ahead of FP1's pace-setter Edoardo Mortara in sixth.
Audi's Adrien Tambay was seventh for Team Abt ahead of Team MTEK's Bruno Spengler in eighth. Nico Muller and Timo Glock completed the top-ten, both lapping within 0.037s of Spengler's eighth place effort.
HWA Mercedes' Paul di Resta fell just short of the top-ten in eleventh while Gary Paffett languished further back in 23rd.
