Team Mucke's Christian Vietoris leads a Mercedes one-two ahead of Robert Wickens after topping the early DTM practice running at the Nurburgring.
In a session which saw no less than five C63 Coupes make the top-ten order, Vietoris proved the fastest of the runners, courtesy of the German's 1 minute 23.838 second effort.
Less than a tenth covered the remainder of the top-three, which was compromised of the leading two championship runners, HWA's Wickens and BMW Team RMG's Marco Wittmann.
Wittmann leads Wickens by 12-points in the title race but it was the Canadian who narrowly trumped the German by 0.006s in FP1.
Having scored a point on his maiden DTM weekend at Moscow, Felix Rosenqvist continued his impressive start to life in the series after setting the fourth quickest lap ahead of the leading Audi runners, fronted by Edoardo Mortara in fifth and Nico Muller in sixth.
Paul di Resta was seventh for HWA Mercedes while Team Phoenix's Timo Scheider led ART Grand Prix's Gary Paffett in eighth and ninth.
Team RBM's Augusto Farfus was the only other BMW driver to make the top-ten order in tenth.
