BMW's Marco Wittmann initiates his final push to what could be a potential second DTM title by setting the quickest time during first practice at Hockenheim.

The championship leader has hit the ground running at the Hockenheimring to ramp up the pressure upon Audi's Edoardo Mortara and Jamie Green.

Wittmann's 1 minute 33.909s effort was enough to send the Team RMG driver just 0.027s clear ahead of Mercedes' Lucas Auer and Antonio Felix da Costa, who begins his final weekend in the series.

Mortara and Green are only drivers who can stop Wittmann taking a second title in the series but the Audi duo ended the first session in 13th and 19th, respectively.

Instead it was Rene Rast who carried the hopes of Audi in FP1 as the 'super sub' posted the fifth quickest time behind Christian Vietoris in fourth.

Also starting his final weekend following a glittering DTM career, 2011 champion Martin Tomczyk posted the sixth fastest effort ahead of BMW stablemate Augusto Farfus in seventh.

Mike Rockenfeller was eighth aboard his Team Abt Sportsline Audi RS 5 while Nico Muller and Paul di Resta completed the remainder of the top-ten.
