Proving that she will not be a novelty in the DTM championship, Susie Stoddart produced an impressive display of driving to grab an excellent top ten finish on her debut.
Driving a 2004 specification Mercedes, Stoddart was consistently faster than Mathias Lauda, Olivier Tielemens and more significantly Vanina Ickx on the way to tenth place, although her cause was aided by the last lap fuel dramas of Daniel La Rosa and Frank Stippler.
A happy Stoddart is now looking ahead to the next race at the EuroSpeedway. "I'm satisfied to finish my first DTM race in tenth position. The car had a good speed and we had good pit stops. I'm happy and look forward to the next race."
Ickx meanwhile had a far tougher baptism of fire and although she finished her debut race, she finished in 15th and last place.
"This was a very good start into my DTM season and I'm happy about having finished the race. In the beginning there was quite a commotion, some rivals drove through the gravel trap and you had to really watch out. I also had to evade Christian Abt who spun in the beginning. I stayed out of all this, pitted early and then had a clear track."
