In stark contrast to Bernd Schneider's victorious performance, Britain's Jamie Green had a comparative nightmare, succumbing to mechanical gremlins and failing to convert his pole position into a maiden DTM win.

The problems for the Salzgitter Mercedes pilot began even before the green light. On the formation lap, Green unexpectedly spun due to an electrical problem with his engine, and only managed to struggle around the 2.8 mile Hockenheim circuit once before retiring on his second tour.

"This was a frustrating end to a weekend which, in the beginning, looked really promising," sighed the British driver, "I already knew I had a problem with the engine electronics on the formation lap when I suffered from wheelspin.

"However, that's motor racing, and I now look forward to the next race at the Lausitzring in three weeks."
