Mathias Lauda won the battle of the 2004 cars at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, ahead of a disappointed Scot Susie Stoddart.

The son of the three-time Formula One World Champion Niki Lauda brought his Mercedes home in 14th place, and managed to stay ahead of Stoddart, a reversal from the season's opening race at Hockenheim where Stoddart beat Lauda.

"I'm the best driver with a 2004 car which is not bad," said a happy Lauda. "My start was not so good, but afterwards I was able to keep up and my fastest lap took less than a second longer than the fastest lap of the race."

In contrast Stoddart, who was hoping to continue her learning curve at the EuroSpeedway, endured a frustrating race finishing one place behind Lauda in 15th and looks to the next round to get her season back on course.

"The race was fairly boring for me," sighed a disconsolate Stoddart, "I am a little disappointed and I know I have to work hard to be better at Oschersleben. Mathias was just better than me."
