Gary Paffett says he is hopeful that Brands Hatch will stay on the DTM calendar after the British circuit played host to the German series for the first time last weekend.

Paffett, the defending champion and now F1 tester for McLaren Mercedes, had campaigned for the series to return to British shores during his two seasons of competition and, although disappointed not to have been able to race himself, he said he felt the return had been a success.

"Brands Hatch is a great circuit and speaking to the people involved, they liked it," he told Crash.net "Hopefully it will stay as a full time DTM event as it is great to have it in the UK and I think it needs to be in the UK to be recognised as a European formula.

"It's a shame I wasn't racing to be fair as I was pushing for a few years to get a race in England and then once I left the championship they had one! It was hard to go out and watch them but I enjoyed being there and watching the cars drive round the British circuit again."

Paffett also backed fellow Briton Jamie Green to recover from the late error that saw him miss out on securing his maiden DTM victory in his home race.

"It was a bit of a disappointment," he said. "I think he was gifted the win when Tom suffered suspension failure and went off but it was unfortunate and Jamie will feel the worst of anyone as he was on his way to a first win in the DTM in his home circuit.

"It will have been hard for him to take but he'll get over it and get on with the rest of his season."
