Although the action on the track at the Norisring is expected to prove the most thrilling competition in Nuremburg this weekend, it could yet have a competitor in the shape of a 'boat' race being conducted by Audi.

Naturally, the race is between Audi's works and customer DTM teams, with the challenge on to see who can create a good enough boat from using only one material - paper!

And to prove how seriously the teams are taking the '1st Audi Dutzendteich' to be held at River Iller, countless hours have been forsaken by the mechanics, while many of the designs have been crafted secretly and have even undergone tests.

Although there is little indication as to who will emerge top from the competition, pre-race photographs of the models have not been allowed, rumours suggest that Mattias Ekstrom has enlisted the help of extreme canoeist Schorschi Schauf, copying his kayak in paper version.

Not all of the teams, which include Abt Audi Sportsline, Team Rosberg, Team Phoenix and Furturecom TME, were successful though with one boat reportedly sinking. The boats will be designed with the same liveries as their drivers cars too.

The race will be staged on Friday night from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Dutzendteich lake immediately adjacent to the paddock.
