Spanish supporters will have extra reason to attend next weekend's inaugural DTM visit to the country, with a special appearance from McLaren Formula One star Pedro de la Rosa.
The eighth round of the series will take place at Barcelona from 22-24 September, with de la Rosa – a native of the city – set to thrill onlookers prior to the race start on Sunday by completing a number of demonstration laps in his McLaren Mercedes MP20.
For the first time since making his debut as McLaren regular, on 16 July in the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours, the 35-year-old Spaniard will have the honour of driving his Formula One machine in front of his home crowd and performing donuts for them. On the Saturday, after the qualifying session, de la Rosa will also sit behind the wheel of an AMG-Mercedes C-Class DTM race taxi to take celebrities around the circuit, before answering questions in an official press conference and signing autographs for the fans.
What's more, even before the race weekend proper gets under way, to get Barcelona in the right mood for the race there will be a DTM spectacular in the city centre on Wednesday, 20 September.
At the Plaza de la Catedral, fans will be able to get close to double Formula One world champion Mika Häkkinen, 1997 Formula One runner-up Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Matthias Lauda, son of three-time grand prix champion Niki.
The three DTM aces will be interviewed and sign autographs before the show reaches its highlight, a simulated pit-stop tyre-change demonstration by the Mercedes-Benz pit crew. Throughout the day, racing action shots on a huge video screen will also get fans in the right mood for the evening action.
