Carroll finally confirmed.
Adam Carroll has finally been confirmed as the final piece in this year's DTM jigsaw, slotting in alongside Vanina Ickx at Team Futurecom-TME.
The Briton will pilot a 2005-spec Audi A4 for the privateer team run by Spyker F1 boss Colin Kolles, carrying the colours of Ethos Organics and Castrol Edge. Although rumoured for some time, the move provides a radical change of scene for Carroll who, until the end of last season, appeared set on the single-seater ladder. He raced in each of the first two seasons of GP2, taking wins for Super Nova in 2005 before switching, less successfully, to the Racing Engineering operation last year. Undaunted, however, he also lined up a possible Champ Car involvement, standing by for the injured Justin Wilson at last season's Mexico City finale before his countryman was deemed fit enough to drive.
The chance to run practice laps in Mexico appeared to have whetted Carroll's appetite for Champ Cars before he ran into the usual problems of racing the finance to race in America and set his sights on one of the vacant seats in the DTM as an alternative. Since then, he has been pursuing the TME seat, but has been made to wait until now for confirmation that he would make his touring car debut next weekend [21-22 April].
“I'm really looking forward to my first race," he said, "Testing has been going well and I enjoy working with the team. The first race next week at Hockenheim will be the real test to see how competitive we are. I want to be running as high up the grid as possible in the 2005 car, but I just can't wait to get racing.”
Team boss Kolles admitted that he was excited to see how Carroll would fare following his decision to switch to 'tin-tops', especially in the DTM, where he will face other erstwhile single-seater aces such as F3 Euroseries champion Paul di Resta and former GP2 rival Alex Premat.
“Besides his achievements in motorsport. it should also be mentioned that Adam is a strong character who fits in well with the team," Kolles said, "With his experience, he'll surely help us to improve. We are all looking forward to a new exciting season and enjoyable teamwork."
