Hakkinen eager to convert pole into victory

1 January 1901

Mika Hakkinen is chasing only his second DTM victory – and the first for the new Mercedes C-Class – after sweeping to pole position for the second round of the season at the Oschersleben.

Rising to the fore when it mattered, Hakkinen denied Mike Rockenfeller a headline grabbing pole position to secure his first top spot since the Spa round of the 2005 season, a race that he went on to win.

As such, Hakkinen is chasing a similarly emphatic performance around the Oschersleben to repay the team and their development of the new car over the winter period.

“It's great to be back on pole position here two years after Spa. The entire team had worked really hard throughout the winter to achieve this result. I thank everybody for their tireless efforts. Tomorrow I want to win, which would be a great reward for my team.”
