Paul di Resta continued to prove his talent behind the wheel of an ageing Mercedes C-Class in qualifying for the third round of the DTM at Lausitz, the Scot securing third position on the grid.
Upsetting the form book once again, di Resta will stick out on the grid come race day when he will be surrounded by the four 2007-specification C-Class', although somewhat bizarrely it will be the reigning Formula 3 Euroseries Champion that will have it all to lose as he goes into the race attempting to consolidate an championship lead.
Nonetheless, while di Resta admits he was confident of being quick on a circuit that has traditionally favoured Mercedes in the past, he did not expect to be mixing it with the HWA entries.
“An excellent qualifying result,” he beamed. “I knew that I am quick here, but I hadn't expected to be that quick. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to repeat my super time from the second qualifying heat in the third session.
“Still, I am very happy with the result. My goal for the race definitely is scoring points and when everything is running smoothly, maybe a podium finish is possible again.”
