Paul di Resta is the surprise new stand-alone leader of the DTM after scoring his second podium of the season in the third round at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.

A remarkable achievement in the 2005-spec Mercedes C-Class, di Resta has pulled out a comfortable eight point advantage over the rest of the competition after battling to another brilliant second place.

Although the Scot managed to run second in the early laps, both Bruno Spengler and Bernd Schneider knocked the reigning F3 Euroseries Champion down to fourth by the time of the first pit stops. However, by choosing a different time to pit under the safety car, di Resta followed race leader Mika Hakkinen in and out of the pits on both occasions.

Furthermore, di Resta was able to keep up with the former Formula 1 World Champion to the chequered flag, his second place matching the feat he managed at the previous Oschersleben round.

Even better, di Resta now returns to the United Kingdom for the next stop on the DTM tour at Brands Hatch, where he is hoping he will be able to fly the flag for Britain and consolidate that lead.

"I had an extraordinary race," he beamed. "Especially in qualifying, my car was excellent. In the race, I had a few minor problems, but the result is absolutely okay. Now I am leading the points' standings coming to Brands Hatch. I would never ever have dreamt about that. I hope that there will be many British fans out there to support me in my home race."
