Spengler: Pace is there... now for some luck.
20 May 2007
Bruno Spengler claims luck is all he needs to break the victory duck for the new Mercedes C-Class after powering to pole position for the third round of the DTM at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.
While the 2007-specification car has shown its class in qualifying thus far this season, neither Spengler or Mika Hakkinen were able to convert those leading positions into even podiums at Hockenheim and Oschersleben.
Nonetheless, Mercedes are well placed to make amends at Lausitz after all four of their HWA-prepared machines qualified inside the top five, Spengler leading Hakkinen in second, while Bernd Schneider and Jamie Green will line-up fourth and fifth respectively.
Indeed, Spengler is now hoping he will be able to complete the job, not least because he is yet to score a point this season and is already seeing his title expectations ebb away.
“I am very happy with pole position. Today, we have shown that the new car is working. In fact, the performance was already there in the previous races, but unfortunately, we ran out of luck. Here, being in front is important as overtaking is not particularly easy. For tomorrow, we are well prepared. When everything is going perfectly, victory is within reach.”
