Markus Winkelhock was left disappointed by his qualifying position of 19th as he embarks on his DTM return for the third round of the championship at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.

Although at the wheel of a 2007-specification Abt Audi A4, Winkelhock has had little chance to get used to the switch from single-seaters to DTM machinery having not competed in the series since he last raced a Mercedes C-Class during the 2004 season.

Together with Audi struggling in general on a circuit that has traditionally favoured their rivals from the three-pointed star, Winkelhock will start from the last row of the grid alongside Vanina Ickx after being able to find the pace that saw him within a tenth of Mattias Ekstrom in practice.

"I'm not really happy because I'd been hoping for a better result. In free practice I was only one tenth of a second away from the 2007-spec cars. In qualifying, I was unlucky in my first outing because a car in front was throwing dirt onto the track, which forced me to end the lap.

"On the second set of tyres I made two mistakes of my own. I was lacking three tenths to Mattias (Ekstr?m) - that way I didn't get ahead any further."
