HWA quartet eager to build on Lausitz form.

Having been humbled by Paul di Resta in a 2005-specification C-Class so far this year, Mercedes 'works' quartet Mika Hakkinen, Bruno Spengler, Bernd Schneider and Jamie Green are determined to restore the natural order at Brands Hatch.

The new C-Class has had a patchy start to the season, its race pace not quite living up to the qualifying speed that has seen it snatch all three pole positions so far this year. Nonetheless, the previous Lausitz round saw the car finally break its victory duck and it did it in style too, Hakkinen, Spengler, Schneider and Green finishing first, third, fourth and sixth respectively.

Even so, the half points that have since been awarded for that race mean Schneider is the best of the quartet in the standings in fifth, 8.5 points off the championship leading di Resta and behind Mattias Ekstrom, Martin Tomczyk and Gary Paffett.

Nonetheless, the team believe Lausitz has shown off the potential of the new car, something the drivers are determined to exploit around the Indy configuration of the Kent circuit.

“At the Lausitzring, my team did an excellent job,” Hakkinen said. “I won the race and was able to show the full potential of the new C-Class. It is my target to repeat this in Brands Hatch.”

It is a view shared with Spengler, with the Brands Hatch round being a race the Canadian is desperate to win if he wishes to remain in the hunt for the DTM he started as favourite for.

“After two races without points I finally ended up on the podium at the Lausitzring. In Brands Hatch, I want to continue this positive trend. However, with 20 cars on this short circuit it will be a very close-fought race.”
