Hakkinen after lights to flag victory.

Mika Hakkinen was thrilled to keep his strong form up in qualifying for the fourth round of the DTM, the Finn eyeing a second consecutive victory from pole position at Brands Hatch.

The second time he will start from the top spot this year, Hakkinen is eager to convert his optimum position into a victory that will match his feat at the previous Lausitzring round.

Naturally, with overtaking around the Kent circuit so difficult, Hakkinen is keen to make the most of pole position, even if he accepts that it is never a guarantee of victory, as shown at Oschersleben when he qualified first but failed to finish.

“I am really happy about my second DTM pole position of the 2007 season. It is an optimum basis for the race; however, victory is not yet guaranteed as the 82 laps on this short circuit will be very demanding and everything can happen.”

Indeed, having put himself in the ideal position for victory at Oschersleben, bodywork problems with his car saw him slip down the order before he was forced to retire with a puncture. It is something he does not want to see a repeat of at Brands Hatch.

“The target is to do the maximum. At Oschersleben I had a problem with the car after the first stop so the game was over after that, but here it should be an exciting race and the intention is to produce a race without mistakes, put on a good show and finish the race in the right position.”
