Lauda eyeing another points finish.

Mathias Lauda is looking to add to the points tally he kick started for the first time at Lausitz after qualifying inside the top ten for only the second time in his DTM career at Brands Hatch.

Coming to the Kent circuit having opened his scoring account at Lausitz with a seventh place finish, Lauda has shown good confidence so far this weekend, reaching the second phase of qualifying before pumping in a strong late lap to secure tenth on the grid.

Although he insists his second-ever top ten starting position, the first being at Le Mans last season, was not so unexpected, he nonetheless admits he was surprised to have emerged as the best of the 2006-specification C-Class'.

“Qualifying went quite well and is was good because our Mercedes is the second heaviest car in the field, so I am quite happy to be in front of my team-mates like Gary Paffett, di Resta and La Rosa. I think I have done a good job, so I am very pleased,” he told Crash.net Radio.

“However, I am not too surprised, because I was competitive in practice, but I have had some bad luck in qualifying so far this year. Now I have a good car and I was pushing hard, although at the same time I was not expecting to be quicker than my team-mates.

Lauda however realises he has a point to prove come race day after his seventh place finish at Lausitz, the Austrian benefiting from a strategy that made the most of the messy safety car periods to move up the field.

With that in mind, Lauda insists he wants a 'normal race' this weekend to prove he can collect points in a competitive environment and he is confident he can shine come race day.

“I want to finish inside the top eight and get some points,” he added. “We were also competitive on old tyres, so if there is no mess in the first corner and we have a good strategy, then I think we can finish in the points.

“Most people think I had a lot of luck for my first points in the DTM, but I had a good strategy and good pit stops. Now I just want to show people that it was not just down to luck and that I can do it again in a normal race.”
