Carroll laments unrewarding weekend.
Adam Carroll is determined to see his fortunes take an upturn over the next few DTM rounds after a dismal afternoon of luck at Brands Hatch saw him cross the line 16th.
Determined to make up for a difficult qualifying session that him line-up on the eighth row of the grid, Carroll made a strong start but paid for it coming up to Druids when he was caught up in the second corner pile-up.
Left with nowhere to go, Carroll did a remarkable job of getting through the gravel trap he was forced into and back onto the race track, albeit at the tail of the field now.
However, the Northern Irishman struggled on his first set of tyres and when he finally pitted later than most he tumbled down the order. Whilst he was able to maintain pace on the second set of tyres, which included having an entertaining tussle with Lausitz sparring partner Jamie Green, a drive-thru penalty for pit lane speeding ultimately capped off his day.
“The race hasn't quite gone to plan again,” the Futurecom TME driver told Crash, net Radio. “I got a very good start in the race, probably my best yet, and I was able to jump di Resta and Paffett.
"di Resta got a good start as well and I was on the outside of him coming up to Druids but there was chaos into there and I couldn't get out of it.
“I got into the gravel, which I was lucky to get away with, but the first set of tyres were not very good and we struggled with the grip. When we made our second stop, the second set of tyres were stronger and I was able to do some good laps. I had a nice battle with Jamie Green into turn one and I pretty much had him off the track because I owed him that from the last race!”
Still, Carroll admits he is becoming increasingly disheartened by the inability to translate practice pace into when it matters in the races.
“From practice we had pace and that is why this is so frustrating,” he added. “When the sun comes out we seem to struggle, which is shame because I know when things do run well I can be fast and be up there. Then when the balance has gone, I have no hope. Still, we were running 12th before the drive-thru, so that would have been better than nothing I suppose.”
