Martin Tomczyk lauded a perfect result in qualifying for the eighth round of the DTM as he bids for his second-straight pole position at the Nurburgring.
Going a long way to improve his title hopes, particularly as championship leader and team-mate Mattias Ekstrom will start down in tenth, Tomczyk was consistently one of the front runners throughout the course of the weekend and duly converted that into qualifying pace.
Still, the Zandvoort winner claims much of the success in qualifying was down to his Audi team after subtle changes to the set-up helped him stay out front in on a grid that sees the top four covered by less than a tenth of a second.
“Things couldn't have gone any better than this. After yesterday, we didn't expect this at all. Even this morning we weren't really sure whether we'd come up with the right set-up. Everything went perfectly. My thanks to the team.
“We changed something between session two and three again. The team said let's try it - that was the right decision. It was exactly what we were lacking. A big thank you from me to the team.”
